Full Academic Program List

NOAA’s National Geodetic Survey (NGS) is actively working to address the lack of geodetic expertise in the United States. NGS is setting up meetings with academic centers within the United States and its territories to discuss their programs, current research, and any challenges in recruiting students or maintaining geodetic faculty. By working with academic programs and listening to their concerns, NGS creates partnerships, shares educational resources and geodetic tools/services, and establishes a network of academic partners structured by region to enable collaboration and engagement with local communities and state agencies. Each network has virtual meetings, discusses funding opportunities to support the academic centers (including funds for recruited students and faculty), and explores potential participation in national and international scientific forums. NGS is also committed to providing access to materials and beta versions of NGS tools and services (e.g., processing data and reference system transformation) for academic researchers and their students, in order to better prepare students for their academic and/or professional careers.

NOAA has identified academic programs across our nation that can mitigate the geodesy crisis. These programs range from a 2-year accreditation certificate in land surveying to programs that offer graduate programs in geodesy, geomatics, geophysics, physics, civil engineering and Aeronautics.
